BelAkker is the urban agriculture workshop of Groot Eiland. The project includes FleurAkker which is our sustainable flower picking project in Jette, more info here. BelAkker also includes 4 vegetable gardens where we grow high value crops: La Petite Senne at the Quai du Hainaut, Aux Ursulines in Les Marolles, L'abattoir on the roof of the Abattoirs and Hélifarm (more info and a short film) in the Northern Quarter, a professional urban vegetable garden and a communal garden on the plateau of the Chaussée d'Anvers on 1500m² in collaboration with the Maximilien farm, Velt and De Harmonie. By developing a guided activity for and through the neighborhood on this plateau on the roof of the Helihaven, these organizations want to bring more dynamism, social cohesion and cleanliness around this site. These 4 gardens in the center work according to the SPIN-farming method: Small Plot Intensive Farming. The 5th Courjette garden of 1.5 hectares on the UZ site in Jette is a CSA project: Community Supported Agriculture.
